Buss passes in Florence
 

Has anyone ever purchased a week to ten day bus pass in Florence? I've been to the web site but it's difficult to figure out. Would you buy it at the main train station? Need a photo? Cost?
Also what should the cab fare be from FLR to Fiesole?

I've never bought one, but I would think they're available from the 'bus station' if you can call it that, just outside the main station. it's really just a (confusing!) collection of bus stops, but they have ticket booths etc, so that would be a place to try. alternatively, 'tabacchi' - little shops selling basically cigarettes, stamps and sweets - sell ordinary bus tickets, and certainly in other cities they sell longer period passes too. I would very much doubt that you need a photo.

I've just looked at their website - which is VERY slow! - and it's 16 euros for a 7 day pass. it doesn't say where it's available, but it just looks like an ordinary bus ticket (no photo required!) that you have to stamp in the little machine on the bus the first time you use it, so i would expect it to be available in the tabacchi as well.

it gives you a list of prices for passes for different durations. you want the 'intera' price as i'm assuming you won't have any sort of discount card. hope that's helpful.

sorry, forgot to mention - the tickets that they call "plurigiornalieri" - which is what you'll need for 10 days - are only sold at the ticket office outside the train station.

You do not need a pass to buss in Florence. :)

We were in Florence for 6 days and took the bus twice. The historic area is very compact.

good point, ira. all the times i've been there, i've only used the buses twice, and that was to get up to piazzale michelangiolo because i was feeling lazy :)

but then, bus passes exist, someone must use them... i suppose if you're staying (with friends or something?) right on the outskirts then you'd want to use them to get in and out of the centre. other than that...

We are staying in Fiesole so the bus works great!

Is it convenient staying Fiesole. We found an interesting bed & breakfast for 400E a week and we were wondering if it is practical to stay there. Are you walking distances to restaurants and piazzas at night. Does the number 7 bus finish late at night after touring Florence?

Fiesole is a pleasant town with a nice central square with many restaurants and cafes.

I don't think that you would want to walk into Florence - it's 20 min by bus.

I agree with Ira, Florence is completely do-able by foot and it's the best way to come back without gaining any weight! Love the Florence beef, tiramisu, & vino!!!

Your heading got me all excited until I realised that it was about boring old buses.

Actually I think bussing in Florence is considered making a pass, so your title makes perfect sense. Although pinching bottoms is usually the preferred method of making a pass.

But you must admit, Ira, that Florence is a very nice place to buss.

I bought a 3-day bus pass and used it twice, and both times it wasn't really necessary in my opinion. I was staying in the Oltrarno area.

However, it sounds as if the original poster might be staying in Fiesole, in which case a bus pass would be very useful.

Sorry all. I was referring to getting from the Villa back to Florence by bus, not taking a bus around Florence as I do know Florence is completely doable on foot. Ira, where is Fiesole and where did you stay there? It sounds like a really good spot to be. How then did you get back to Florence? We just don't want to rent a place and not be able to easily get around. We thought about renting a car, but we would need 2 for seven people and I don't know if any of us are really up for driving. I've been looking for places that would either have a shuttle service to and from a train station or a bus that stops near the property. Anyway, tell me more about Fiesole. Fiesole is a small town in the hills above Florence, about 20 min by bus from the SMN station. 1E each way.
