Bus Trip to Chateaux de Vaux le Vicomte
Has anyone taken the Bus Trip by Cityrama/Parisvision from Paris to Chateaux de Vaux le Vicomte and Fontainbleu?
Is it worth the money? Thanks |
How much does it cost? Personally, I think actually seeing Vaux le Vicomte is worthwhile and it used to be that the link between the rail station in Melun and the chateau was the "weak" one. This is because you needed to get a taxi or the local bus from the station.
That all may have changed. I would certainly make the visit but what may seem like an undue expense to you might not to me. I am certain others will comment. |
Yes, I did and it was excellent. It was worth the money to me for the convenience of transport to that location, but I don't know your cost threshold. The guide was very good, but I'm sure that varies. The one I took was ONLY Vaux le Vicomte, however. It's easy to get to Fontainebleau on your own IMO. But if you want to combine them, it probalby is the only way to do that easily in one day and the fare seems reasonable (61 euro). I notice that description says the tour of Vaux le Vicomte is by audioguide, the one I was on was not, it was a personal guide. But nowadays they use audioguides a lot and you can go at your own pace, so that's not necessarily bad. I can't remember if my tour was in French or English, with those guides they can do any language now.
I don't even see that they have only Vaux le Vicomte now, and I think I paid almost that much anyway (I'm sure it was at least 40-50 euro). |
I've done the audio-guided tour at Vaux and it was excellent. Very in-depth with options for even further detail.

I did a Paris Walks trip to Vaux and thought it was great.
