Bus Trier to Luxembourg
Although the distance between Trier, Germany & Luxembourg is only about 35 miles, it takes over 1 1/2 hrs.by train with a change or two. Does anyone know if there is a bus that goes between the two places that might be faster than the train? I've also given some thought to renting a car, but by the time we get to the rental place, fill out the paper work, etc. we may not save that much time....not to mention the parking situation in Luxembourg. It may not be that easy/convenient as well as time spent returning car in Trier, etc. Any thoughts on this situation are much appreciated. Thank you.

Try this. http://www.delux-express.de/english May be a bit faster.

Not sure where you looked, but when you check rail connections at www.bahn.de you will find that there are 1-2 trains per hour which go direct and need 50-60 minutes.
Choose "Trier Hbf" as your starting point, and "Luxembourg Gare" as your destination. |
Take a cab. I did and the taxi driver gave me a deal because he could buy cheaper gas in Luxembourg than in Germany.

The walk-up, non-restricted train ticket costs €17.30
I think one has to know how much the deal with the cabbie was to see if it was a bargain. |
There's a special ticket for visiting Luxembourg from by train and/or bus called the "Tagesticket Delux" - it costs 10.80€ round trip for the "price level 2" Tagesticket Delux from Trier (trips to Luxembourg from other places in Germany have different prices.) It's good on all local (NOT IC, ICE, EC) trains and buses for this trip (private line buses are not included.)
Buy it from the VRT ticket machine at Trier's station. VRT is the local transit authority; VRT negotiated the special price with Luxembourg authorities.) Info in German: http://www.vrt-info.de/uebergangstarif-luxemburg.php. |
