Bus Travel in Alsace?

Does anyone know if it is possible to travel by bus from Strasbourg to Colmar and Kayersburg?

Thank you!

HI--do you mean bus as opposed to train? I know that we went by bus to Obernai from Strasbourg, and then returned later on the same day by local train. I think they may offer both modes of transport, but I am not sure..

No, I meant as opposed to car. I didn't think about there being trains to the small towns from Strasbourg. I'll check sncf web for info.

Merci!

Train is available between Strasbourg and Colmar, but none to Kayersburg, as I can see, so guess that's where I'd need the bus, if any.

Earlier this year I had asked the Colmar tourist office a similar question that involved bus transportation. They advised that the buses don't have as accomodating schedules as the train. Besides, the train is much faster and comfortable.

HI grandmere--I wonder if they show all the little local trains on the sncf website?? Also thank you again for your wonderful recommendation of the Hotel Rohan last year. We stayed there and loved it!! My posts w/questions about Strasbourg were my "initiation" onto this travel board and I have been hooked ever since!! :)

Yes, train would be preferable. And maybe you're right, sw, that the little local lines don't show up on sncf web. Glad you liked the Hotel de Rohan; it's been years since I've been there. Dreaming about going for the Christmas mkts., but it's still in the fantasy stage!

I lived near Colmar for quite a spell. The best way by far from Strasbourg to Colmar is by train: they are very frequent and the trip duration is less than half an hour. You can then get to Kaysersberg by bus, but be warned! Services are not particularly frequent. There is no train to Kaysersberg or any other town on the Route de Vin: there are NO little local trains.

HI adeben--we took an *ancient* little local train from Obernai back to Strasbourg,(in '04) but that was going into a main station...too bad there are not such trains to the other little towns on the Route de Vin..it was fun to be on it, b/c most of our experience on European trains is on the very up-to-date lines and this felt like a trip back in time!!

Thanks, all, and especially to you, Adeben, for the definitive word on trains in the area!
