Bus travel from Rome to poggibonsi in Italy

Going to Rome on the 10th of Sept. It sounds as if traveling by bus out to the Tuscany region is a good idea from what I have been reading. We are staying in a villa in Poggibonsi. My question is: What town should we go to on the bus from Rome? Can we get all the way to Poggibonsi from Rome by bus? Will it be the same Sena bus or do we have to change to another type of bus somewhere and where?

You would take the Sena bus to Siena and change to either a bus or train there. Here's a map of bus connections for the area. There are several buses that stop in Poggibonsi, but it also has a train station. I would think you would need a car to get around if you are staying out of town in a villa.

Some friends will already be there when we arrive. They will be renting a car earlier, so we will have access to that once we get there. I'm trying to find out how to do this on our won as there is a chance the others will leave the night before we do to go to Florence as their plane leaves at 6:30 am!! We are staying on in Italy and will return to Rome for three days before we fly out on the 27th. They will no doubt pick us up when we arrive, but I am trying to make it as close as I can to save them the drive, hence the Poggibonsi destination. Since we will be on our own and will no doubt have to take a taxi to Poggibonsi when we leave to take a bus back to Siena and then on to Rome, I'm trying to see if this is doable! I think we can purchase tickets ahead back here in the states for the Sena bus to Siena, but can you also buy tickets on the bus that we would no doubt change to to get into Poggibonsi. I know there is a train at the airport that will take us to the Tiburtina station and that the bus terminal is across the street from what someone posted earlier. We get into the airport at 9:30 am. How much time should we allow to get us to the bus staion so I know what time to book that? Also, do the buses in Siena on to Poggi run frequently? I haven't been able to find those schedules. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate!!

The trains from FCO to Tiburtina depart every 15 minutes and travel time is 45 minutes (8€). This is the local FR1 (or sometimes listed as FM1), not the Leonardo Express. Tiburtina station is a big bus hub for city buses and long distance buses, so it could be a bit of a trek to the Sena bus. I've purchased Sena tickets online before, but it was for a specific time and not Rome travel.

There are several buses (Sita or Tra-in which is a bus not a train) between Siena and Poggibonsi. Find the bus numbers on the map I linked above and then look up schedules by bus number.

There is a rapid bus and a slow bus between Siena and Florence. The slow bus stops in Poggibonsi. Pay attention to the legend keys (zoom in a few times to read them)as some buses aren't week/work days only.

The Sena bus mentioned in the first post is as fast as the train between Rome/Siena and drops you in the center (train station requires transport to the center).
