Bus to Churchill's home out from Oxford
 

Does anyone have information about the bus out to Bleheim from Oxford? How would we find a bus schedule? Does the bus go all the way to the house?

I did it both ways - took a bus to Woodstock - they are rather frequent from the main bus depot in the heart of Oxford. Then it was a short enough walk to Blenheim from where the bus left us off. That were a few years back but the point is it is very very easy to do with a good frequency of buses.

The official site below says that buses back to Oxford will stop in at the Marlborough Arms pub - a convenient place to wait for your bus!

Just in case there is some confusion -- Winston Churchill never lived at Blenheim. He was born there -- but that was just because he was premature and his parents were visiting Blenheim at the time.

He is buried nearby in Bladon Churchyard - but Blenheim belongs to the cousin's side of the family. Not that you may not want to visit Blenheim anyway -- but not because it was Churchill's home.

If you really want to see where Winston lived -- you'd want Chartwell in Kent south of London.

Oh - no, the buses do not go to the house. You'd have to walk in from Woodstock and across the rather extensive grounds. If mobility is a problem - a cab from Oxford would be better (though much more expensive)

You don't want the Marlborough Arms. Ask the driver going out to drop you at Blenheim gate, then return to the stop opposite that to get back. It's still a half-mile walk. If this is a problem, you probable need a cab from Oxford, though contacting them at the numbers on Blenheim's accessibility page (http://www.blenheimpalace.com/thepal...ssibility.html) will probably get them to be helpful about letting the cab drive up to the door.

If you have time visit the Bladon Parish Church where the part American Churchill was and indeed is still buried. It's a typical small English parish church with the quintessential yew-tree-dotted English churchyard around it. I walked from Woodstock and caught the bus back to Oggsford from there.

Blenheim Palace has been scavanged before by Brits - Flanner.uk being the foremost in saying it's a pitiful pile of blocks i believe. But i at least loved the palace itself and especially the grounds, tacky tourist-driven sites and all.

I'm not clear how mobile the OP is. He's expressed concerns about the distance between platforms at Paddington, and has breathing difficulties.

The management at Blenheim make dreadful neighbours - but they're also sympathetic human beings when they're not being asked to put our needs ahead of their money-grubbing. So phone them if getting around is a problem. However, Bladon church is another half mile or more in the other direction, and isn't on the Blenheim estate.

While it's the one bit of the Blenheim experience constructed on a human scale (thus demonstrating how much greater a human being Winston C. - who insisted on a spectacularly understated grave in a proper churchyard - was than his ghastly cousins and his unspeakable ancestor), it's very difficult to get to without a car if you've got mobility problems.
