Bus service between Santa Margherita Lugure and Portofino

Is their a bus service between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino? Or maybe a ferry service?

Any help appreciated.

Hi LarryJ

Yes there is a bus right outside of the train station. SML is not on the coast, Portofino is. No ferry to Portofino from SML.

Larry J: Santa Margherita is on the Mediterranean and has a beautiful harbor. In addition to bus service between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino, there is ferry service. We preferred the ferry ride because you enter the harbor with Portofino in full view, a gorgeous sight. You can use the ferry for other destinations past Portofino along the coast, getting on and off at your leisure. Enjoy - it's a beautiful area.

The bus is a much cheaper, if not faster, option than the ferry. Presuming you are coming to Santa Margherita Ligure from another city in Italy, you would come via train. At the train station, you can buy a bus ticket from the adjoining cafe/tobacchi shop. The bus stop is to the immediate right of the station and the bus only takes about 12 minutes to wind around through SML and the peninsula to Portofino. The bus stops right at the top (beginning) of the main street in Portofino. It couldn't be much easier. If you want a view of the charming harbor, you can walk along past all the shops, the boats, and up the steps on the right to get a picture-perfect view of the pastel-colored buildings and beautiful water.

Thank you all for the information. I intend to spend a few days between Thanksgiving and Christmas in the area.

Larry

Sorry for the mis-information. I was there this past summer and did not realize there was ferry service to and from SML. Thanks waggis for the straight poop, so to speak ;-)

Lewis,

No problem; you were right about the bus service which was my main concern.
Thanks for the reply.
