Bus schedules in London
 

We have a map for the tube.

But, if we are walking around and decide we want to go from point A to point B on a bus, how do we know which one to take, or where to find the appropriate bus stop? All the maps I've found on the web, one needs to know ahead of time where they want to go.

I will have an ipad at the apartment, so some routes I can get before we leave the apartment for the day. What I'm wondering is, lets say we go to site A early in the morning, and then it starts raining and we say, "hey, good museum day" ..............how do we figure out how to get to the museums on a bus?

Hi Cathinjoetown ~ can't use Journey Planner unless I'm missing something on the site. I need to know how to find a bus stop or route from point A to point B if I'm standing in the street (without a smartphone)

Maps at the bus stops sound helpful, I guess the bus stops are pretty easy to find?

You never have to look far for a bus stop, at least in central London; and every bus stop has an area map on it, showing which buses from the area as a whole, as well as that stop, go where, and which stop you need to go to for each route. Here's an example for Trafalgar Square:

It may not go exactly where you want, but somewhere not too far, where there might be an interchange for another route.

Our Hotel gave us a paper bus route map that we took with us. We also stopped at a couple of tube stations enroute and asked the clerk at the window, without having to go down to trains, questions about the buses.

Sorry, wrenwood, I mis-read your post. As Patrick said, in central London you are never far from a bus stop.
