Bus or train
 

We will be travelling from Venice to Perugia on a Sunday in May.
would the bus be easier than the train?

No.

No because bus station is not quite as accessible by water as train station where boats let you off literally at the stations front steps. But bus station at Pz Roma is not hard to reach either but trains are probably faster - buses can get snarled in traffic - trains are dirt cheap - take regional trains and not express trains which require seat reservations before boarding and cost more - regional trains have no seat reservations and are dirt cheap. Check Acquista il biglietto con le nostre offerte - Trenitalia for regional trains and don't board just any ole train but a regional train - should be marked on overhead signs to each platform. Padua's train station is also an easy walk to town center and key churches and religious shrines.

And you can easily buy those regional train tickets at the station from machines or ticket windows - no need to pre-buy and in fact those tickets pre-bought may have restrictions on time of use whereas those bought at stations do not - buy return tickets too and don't forget to cancel your own regional train ticket before boarding or the ticket will not be valid.

The bus ride takes about 7 hrs (with a bus change at either Bologna or Florence) and costs about 20 EUR/pax.
The train is 1-2 hrs faster and more comfortable. Same fare if you get a super economy ticket (for the Mestre - Arezzo leg).

But for those fares book as soon as possible - play around with www.trenitlaia.com or www.italotreno.com - two competing railways using same stations and tracks as said above - and see when they start taking bookings - cheapest tickets for train sold in limited quantities. Bus I think is always cheap but 7 hours on a bus - well no-brainer to take train even if costs much more.
