Bus from Sorrento to Rome
 

I'm thinking of taking the early (ugh, 6:30am...much too early!!!) bus from Sorrento to Rome in October.

I read somewhere that even on the bus with your luggage below in the luggage hold that you need to keep an eye out for thieves at the various stops along the route... that they will steal your luggage from the luggage hold.

Is this true, please?

Yes, I'd rather take the bus.

I've never had it happen, but it's certainly a possibility. It's one reason I prefer trains to buses - easier to keep an eye on your luggage, you can get up and walk around, you can go to the toilet, you don't get held up in traffic. If I am on a bus I usually try to sit on the same side as my luggage so I can keep an eye out at stops, but if someone did walk off with my bag I doubt I'd be able to catch them..

The bus makes very few stops. They usually stop at Pompeii and one or two other places before getting on the autostrada. The luggage bin might not get opened if no one gets on at those stops or if it's commuters, not tourists. When I've used the bus it's been pretty empty. Are you taking Curreri or Marozzi?

jetsetj - The bus is the easier option as it doesn't require any stops/changes as the train does and travel time is about the same. It's also much cheaper.

I am taking Curreri as it leaves 1/2 hour later than Marozzi. Is there any difference between the two that I should be aware of, please?
