Bus from Rome to Siena
My fiancee and I will be staying in Siena and the Tuscan countryside for our honeymoon. I have booked our accomodations here: http://www.aiamattonata.com/ After emailing Mario (the owner) about traveling from Rome to his B&B, he stated to take the bus and he will pick us up at a station in Siena.
My question to you fodorites: how far is the bus station from the FCO (Rome airport)? And what is the best way to get there (ie taxi, train, bus, etc.). Thanks for everyone's help on here, I've learned a tremendous amount just reading through all of the threads! |
Take a local train from FCO (train station name: Fiumicino Aeroporto) to Roma Tiburtina station. The train takes 45 minutes and costs 8 euro. The bus leaves from a station across from Tiburtina. You can check schedules here:
http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html (Do NOT take the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini--it doesn't stop at Tiburtina.) |
The bus is run by Sena (http://www.sena.it/index_e.htm). Book online as the fare is significantly cheaper (even after the hidden "admin fees"
Enjoy Siena, quite possibly my favourite place on Earth. |
Buses to Siena depart form the Tiburtina station
Autostazione Tiburtina Via Guido Mazzoni, 00162 Roma, Italy Bus website with schedules. Looks like there are buses every 1.5 to 2 hrs all day long. https://boa.busbookingline.it/web/eu...c277004c9c02d0 You can get a direct train to Tiburtina from the airport. On www.trenitalia.com, you can find train schedules from Fiumicino Aeroporto to Roma Tiburtina. There are departures every 30min all day long, :27 and :57 each our. Duration is 45min, no changes. I don't recall the fare, but it's less than 10 euros. No reserved seats. Just buy your tickets at the airport train station & validate them before boarding in one of the little yellow machines. |
And you could go all by train - probably slower than the direct bus as you have to change change at Chiusi-CTerme, a station on the old main line between Rome and Florence - quite a few trains - trenitalia.com.
The Siena train station is however at the foot of the hill Siena regally caps - I assume buses may dump you right on top of the hill, but not sure. If looking for cheap supermarket food or essentials check out the huge (for Italy) hypermarche just by the Siena train station. |
