Bus from Rome to Positano or Sorrento?
I know there has been a lot of discussion on this point, but can anyone comment on the private bus service that runs from Rome Tiburtina to either Sorrento or Positano? Anyone know how much it costs and how long it takes? Thanks.

The bus company is called "MAROZZI" and its "neat" website is found at
www.marozzivt.it
There is daily service leaving Roma Tiburtina at 15:00 and arriving Sorrento at 19:00.
There MAY be an additional service at 7:00, arriving at 10:45, although this runs daily only from June through September, and on weekends during the remainder of the year.
I would send them an e-mail for additional information.
I might point out that it is actually faster to take the (non-stop) Eurostar train from Roma Termini to Naples Centrale (1 hr, 45 mins.), followed by the half-hourly Circumvesuviana commuter train to Sorrento (70 mins.), although you do have to "put up" with the sometimes-crowded Circumvesuviana.

The Eurostar to Naples is obviously the best, although perhaps a bit dearer. When you come off the train at Naples, take a taxi to the harbour and take the hdyrofoil from Naples Station to Sorrento - the local train from Naples to Sorrento stops at every station and is a nightmare.

GAC, thanks. I looked at the Marozzi web site. It looks like the 7am bus from Rome to Positano does run during the week when I will be there. I couldn't tell for sure, but it looked like the bus might be something like E90 one way. That would make it a much more expensive option than the train and local bus combo, wouldn't it? Did I see somewhere here that the Eurostar train Rome-Naples (1h45m) is about E25? Does a train like that tend to be booked far in advance or can I get a spot on it a few days before?

No way!!!!!!!!!!!! The bus probably runs about 25 Euros each way. The Eurostar train to Naples costs 22.21 Euros in second class and 32.54 Euros in first class. Unless you are over six feet in height, second class is fine. You can safely buy the train ticket one or two days before the date of departure. Even on the morning of departure, you should easily find seats in first and maybe second class.
