Bus from Izmir (Secluk) to Kalkan
 

Does anyone know what bus line goes to Kalkan from Izmir. We will be visiting Ephesus early in the morning and thought about renting a car to drive to Kalkan -- but realized we will be probably too tired to drive the 5-6 hour drive. I know we could hire a driver to drive us there -- but quite costly. Thinking about a bus. Before you suggest it -- yes, we could fly -- but we would spend about 10-11 hours from start to finish at airports and then still have a 2 hour drive from Dalaman Airport.

When you finish your tour in Selcuk you can find many buses to Kalkan.
Pamukkale and Kamil Koc are good ones

I don't know if you've been on a bus in Turkey, but just in case you haven't...we took a bus from Kusadasi to Izmir, and a few days later another one up to Istanbul in 2003, and we found them to be VERY comfortable.

In addition to the driver -- they had a steward who fed us coffee/tea/water, and a baggage handler.

Those were probably the most posh bus rides I've ever had. Enjoy!

Kalkan is a wonderful place with some of the best food in Turkey... Even though it has been a few years since I have been there, I fondly remember the "no problem" brothers who ran our pensione, the wonderful restaurants with such tasty healthy food - One restaurant had one of the best chocolate desserts I have ever had (and I am not a chocoholic!) The chef had spent some time cooking in Switzerland before returning to Turkey, and my husband and I still talk about it. Kos, a nearby village, is also quite nice and has good shopping. What a wonderful place... Enjoy

Also, be sure to carry your passport on your person, as we were stopped several times by the police who requested everyone to show ID. I agree that long distance bus travel in Turkey is great, especially with baggage handlers and checked baggage. Have a great trip.

Thanks for all of your replies to my post. Do you know approx. how long the bus ride would be from Secluk to Kalkan. Also, does Secluk have a bus depot?

If we decide to rent a car, can anyone suggest a really pretty and interesting stopping point along the coast to do very minimal sightseeing and get a good night's sleep? Or are we better off driving straight to Kalkan? THanks.

If you decide to rent a car, here are some really pretty and interesting stopping points for you to choose along the coast to do very minimal sightseeing and get a good night's sleep.

After visiting Ephesus all morning and driving some 2-4 hours in the afternoon there is no point in forcing your limits and trying to reach Kalkan. I would definitely recommend Akyaka http://www.akyaka.com/ or Dalyan http://www.dalyaninfo.com/fring.htm for overnight stay.

I think the bus journey from Selcuk to Kalkan will be around 7 hours.
