Bus from Florence to Sienna

Has anyone taken the bus from Florence to Sienna? If so, can you share your experience. Was it easy, any problems, etc.

We stayed in Siena and drove to Florence. It has to be easy, it is only a forty five minute drive.

Hi j,

The bus station os on Via santa Caterina da Siena, about 2 blks from the Florence SMN station.

The buses have Ac, are comfy. Trip takes 1 hr, drops you off near the town square in Siena.

6.5E ea way.

You can buy tickets in advance.

If you do, don't leave them on the dresser at the hotel.

Ira: do you know what route the buses tend to take - do they go thru Chianti-en-Greve for instance? Do they go thru any hilltowns, or by? thanx.

I don't how accurate this schedule is, but I'll find out this weekend.

I don't know if the 75 minute bus makes any intermediate stops (the schedule doesn't indicate any).

I took the SITA bus from Florence to Sienna and back. On the way to Sienna, it didn't stop anywhere, except twice in Florence; on the way back it made a stop in .. (forget the name, what's that old town with lots of towers).

The bus was a nice double-decker with ac. The route was on a highway, with nice but not spectacular views of countryside.

It is easy to buy the ticket and find your correct bus lane in the station.

Hi PB,

There are two buses.

The fast one takes the highway, which is nice but not "scenic".

The slow one goes through several towns (I think).

My husband and I took the SITA from Florence to Siena and back and had no problems. The only tricky thing was figuring out how to get to the bus station in Florence and getting in the right line to buy tickets. Everyone just said that the bus station is next to the train station (on the river side), but you actually have to walk to one side of the block or other to get in. Then we got in some sort of long line with people who had tons of baggage at first, but realized we could get our tickets in one of the shorter lines. Our bus made two stops in small towns on the way there, and none on the way back.

Having just taken the bus the past Saturday, I can say that it was easy. The quick express ride is 75 minutes each way.

The bus does make intermediate stops in Florence and Siena, and there's no need to catch the bus at the bus terminals (in Siena the "bus terminal" is actually in a square and not really a terminal, just bus stops). However, I'm not sure how a tourist would know where to catch the bus elsewhere in Florence and Siena.
