Bus from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg

Can someone give me a some information regarding taking a bus from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg, Austria for a day trip. Also, is the bus terminal in Salzburg convenient to the Old Town area of Salzburg or do we have to take a taxi from the bus terminal.

Thank you.

S-Bahn trains now run from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden regularly - right to central Salzburg.

The bus terminal at Salzburg is just outside the train station. I prefer the bus. I have never checked the difference in time. You can take a ciy bus to Old Town or
a taxi from the station is about 6-8 €, but it is walkable.

Salzburg is small and yes, very walkable. I took the bus from Salzburg (where I was staying) to Berchtesgaden; at that time (2011) it was quicker to take the bus, maybe it still is. (I usually prefer the train to go anywhere in Europe, but sometimes buses are more efficient.)

The bus stop right before the Salzburg bus station, as I recall, is basically along the river road adjacent to the old town, so if you can figure out how to get off there, you can save some walking back from the bus station. You can look this up online somewhere I'm sure. Then again, Salzburg is a pleasant walking town, so a walk to/from the old town might be worthwhile. (Mirabella gardens for example is across the river from the old town.)

Buses take 49 minutes the train about 65 minutes - bus is a no brainer here - probably cheaper as well. (from www.bahn.de - German Railways official site).
