Burgundy - Sunday/Monday stay a problem?
 

We will be 2 days in Burgundy the end of September (on the way from Dordogne toward Champagne region.) The 2 days will be a Sunday and Monday. Will there be a problem finding things open? (restaurants, tastings, etc). I seem to remember posts that warned about this.

The first thing I could think of is the harvest will be in full swing so some of the smaller cheaper B&B may be full of pickers. Tastings will be hard to find in the small places 'cause everyone will be busy with the harvest and tastings will be stopped, not a problem in the bigger places. There will be a bit of wine selling going on to clear space for the new stuff unlikley to give a problem. Other than that I cannot think of a reason.

We were in Burdundy at that same time of year in '08. Like bilboburger stated, the grape harvest will be active - so some of the wineries might be distracted.

On Sunday, Dijon will be quite dead. On Monday morning, perhaps many shops will be closed also. Of the 9 restaurants listed in my '09 Red Michelin guide - all are closed on Sunday, and 4 are closed on Monday.

In Beaune, many shops & wine tasting facilities will be open on Sunday - but many will be closed on Monday. Of the 14 restaurants listed in my guide, 5 are open on Sunday, and 5 are open on Monday. One of my favorite restaurants in Pernand-Vergelesses (Charlemagne) is open on Sunday & Monday.

Were there last September, although mid-month as the harvest just began. It's a beautiful time of year to go. Small domaines are busy harvesting (although it may be over by late-month), but many of them have already sold their year's inventory by then anyway.
Great place to stay is Domaine des Anges in Puligny-Montrachet, www.domainedesangespuligny.com. Wonderful hosts, super little village, local caveau has wide variety of tastings, so you don't need for the wineries to be open. There are similar shops in other villages, such as Pommard.
