Burgundy itinerary
 

We are leaving for France in 10 days...to Dordogne, St. Emilion and our 6th stay in Paris!!

The Air France sale is allowing us a second trip, end of October for my husband's birthday. His birthday falls in the last two days of our 10 day trip and we have reservations in Reims at Les Crayeres for the last two nights, flying out of CDG at 4:40 pm the next day.

We've not been to Burgundy but are thinking
Paris 3 nights, pick up car and
Vezelay 2 nights
Beaune 3 nights
Reims 2 nights (we're aware this is not Burgundy)

Would appreciate any comments, suggestions as have only booked last two nights.

That sounds like a good plan--Les Crayeres ought to be just the place for a birthday celebration.

Any suggestions for lodging in Vezelay or Beaune? We're looking for something cheaper than Les Crayeres but with character!

Someone asked about Vézéley a few weeks back; try a site search, as there were a number of suggestions but I can't remember them.

Whenever we're near Beaune we stay in the hamlet of Bouilland at the Hostellerie du Vieux Moulin, an extremely charming small hotel complex (more of an inn, really) with a 1* restaurant. Bouilland itself is tiny, quiet, and bucolic; we love it. Here's the web site for the hotel:

We're staying there, again, in September for 148€. There's even a covered swimming pool if you can tear yourselves away from watching the cows in the pasture--very contented they are.

Bouilland is in what's called Swiss Burgundy and is about 20 minutes from Beauve via Savigny-les-Beaune, a wine village with delicious reds.

We have stayed at the wonderful Chateau Chorey Les Beaune, 5 minute outside of Beaune in Chorey les Beaune. An 11th century castle complete with their own vineyards, and a wonderful full breakfast. Very idyllic. Another wonderful hotel was in Puligny Montrachet called Hotel Montrachet with a one star restaurant called le Montrachet. Beautiful old stone building. This trip we have decided to stay in Beaune at Le Bretonnaire. You can't go wrong with Les Crayeres, I hope you are eating there as well. Truly one of the best dining experiences of my life. Have them make reservations for you at some of the 'private' champagne houses such as Roederer, Krug, and Bollinger. These are not open to the public.

I hate to piggy-back off another question but I am looking at the same lodging options. Has anyone stayed at, or familiar with La Terre D'Or in the Beaune area? Saw it on Karen Brown's site and their were no threads mentioning it. Thanks.

Thanks, LoriNY, we do have dinner reservations at Les Crayeres...and are really looking forward to the experience! We'll ask about the private champagne houses as well.
It seems there are so many options in and around Beaune, its hard to choose. Not a bad problem to have, though!

Why did you top this 8 months later? If anybody is looking for ideas in the Vezelay area, I've got a couple of unusual ones.
