Burgundy Hotel

Need a hotel for 1st night after flying in to CDG (9:00AM). No more than 100 miles or so from Paris. Going towards Dijon/Beaune. How difficult is it to drive around Paris to get to A6 South?

Where are you renting a car?

I'd recommend taking the AirFrance bus from CDG to the Montparnasse train station and then staying your one night nearby (it's the 14th arrondissement; the Hotel Daguerre is a perfectly fine and relatively inexpensive hotel nearby). Then, I'd arrange to pick up my car at the Montparnasse train station the next morning. It's a very easy shot straight out the Avenue du Maine to the periphique to pick up the A6.

Oops--did I misunderstand? Are you actually looking to drive straight to Burgundy from CDG? If so, it's not too difficult. Just get on the periphique and follow it around the city until you see signs for the A6 (if the periphique was a large clock, the CDG entrance to it is at about the number "1" and the A6 exit is probably around "5" or "6".

We are driving directly from CDG to Burgundy. Car rental is already arranged(CDG). Is the periphique the perimeter highway? It does not appear so straight forward on my Rand McNally map of Paris.

Get a copy of the Michelin "Environs of Paris" map #196 to learn how to catch the ring road from CDG. But you might want to dodge that busy expressway and get off in St. Dennis for a more liesurely drive.

Or, if you're not in a hurry go over to Reims and then mosey on south. It's a beautiful country, full of great places to eat and sleep. Get off the road by about 1pm for lunch in any auberge, and then by 6pm to find a bed and dinner.

For a similar trip we are planning, we plan to drive straight to Beaune after arriving at CDG in the morning. The ViaMichelin website shows 210 miles and 3:02 hour driving time. We plan to stop at Auxerre, about half way, for lunch and arrive at the hotel around 2:00pm, which is about normal check-in time. I hate one night stays. I get pretty good sleep on the flight and would prefer to get to a resonably close destination (this is about my limit) for 3 nights straight to start my vacation where I really want to be.
