Burgundy Base for 6 day Road Trip
Hello, suggestions for a few overnight towns while exploring Burgundy in June please. This is my list my first pass, and will likely change as I check accommodation availability. Does it make sense for amount of days per place?
Day 1 (Monday) - Leave Provence - Arrive Beaune
Use Beaune as a base also for day 2-4 - (Dijon and Châteauneuf-en-Auxois day trips)
Day 4 (Thursday) Dive to Vezelay & tour around
Day 5 (Friday) Drive to Auxerre & tour around
Day 6 (Saturday) meander to Hotel by CDG for Sunday AM flight home
About my trip: Traveling with husband & daughter under 2.Hoping to have accommodation where we can walk or use transit to dinner & some wine tasting (so we can safely drink). We love B&Bs and would love to stay somewhere like a farmhouse or rustic/ rural B&B for a night or 2.
Thoughts? Ideas? Am I way off base?
Cheers!

Oh yes, and i forgot to mention, I have assumed that with limited time, it is best to allocate it either in Provence or in/ around Beaune. I believe the Euro Cup is in Lyon on our Day 1 so that is out of the question. Is there somewhere else in between worth an overnight?

Not really - unless perhaps Beaujolais. But with only 4 1/2 days, I would just concentrate on Burgundy. Perouges is interesting - but only a 2 hr visit, IMO, so it would not be a good candidate for an overnight. Vienne has some interesting Roman stuff - but you'll see Roman stuff in Provence.
It's an easy 4 hr drive from Avignon to Beaune - so I would just high-tail it there. Once you leave northern Provence/Drome - the is some ugly commerce & nuclear power plants along the Rhone until you get to Beaujolais.

Do you have my Burgundy Itinerary? If not, e-mail me at [email protected] & I'll attach one to the reply e-mail.
My most popular itinerary is for Provence. I've sent it to over 3,000 people on Fodors. Ask for that one also if you don't already have it.
