Burgundy

My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon in France for this summer. We would like to spend a few days in Burgundy where our main focus will be wine-tasting. Does anybody have any hotel or wine cellar suggestions? Would you suggest we try to stay in Dijon or Beaune? Thanks!

I suggest that you stay in Beaune, the heart of Burgundy. To visit the vineyards you'll need a car. Get a copy of the Michelin Green guide Burgundy and study up before you go.

Be aware that most (or all) grand or premiere cru wine producers require advanced appointments. You may want to look up the contact information on the internet of those that you will want to visit. There are, however, quite a few village-level producers that will have their tasting rooms open andavailable without appointments.

cocofromdijon,

It looks like a place I would like to know more about. Do you have a website with photos and map and directions and prices. If so, please post your URL. If not, please start a website.

I stayed at a B&B, should you need one in Beaune.

hopscotch, thank you for your quick message! :-) I haven't started the website yet because the decoration of the flat is not finished (especially frames)and as I don't know how to make a web site, I have to read a big book about frontpage!
for now you can watch a nice video of dijon on the site www.dijon.fr (click on "Découvrez Dijon en 3D Retrouvez Dijon et le parcours de la chouette" on the right)
there is also one page in english if you click on the english flag, otherwise it's all in french...

as I'm afraid of spamming(even in France I have 30 english spams everyday... :-( ) can you tell me if there is a private message system here?
I've just arrived!
It's getting late for me now (0:15) I'll wait a few minutes and I go to bed!
bonne nuit (or I should good afternoon!)

you don't need advance appointments to taste wines at a fair number of châteaux; the one in savigny-les-beaune comes immediately to mind, as does château meurseult, a must-visit for the immense cellar. most of the small villages along the principal wine roads have local tasting rooms, such as the one in aloxe-corton. you can also drive up into the vineyards, but resist the impulse to eat a grape! we saw a bicycle tour pulling up at one of the romanée-conti vineyards and scarfing down the fruit--enough to make a wine-lover weep.

Thanks for the suggestions for Burgundy. We will take your advice and stay in Beaune. I would love B & B suggestions. Thanks!

We stayed at the wonderful Hostelerrie de Bretonnaire in Beaune, just off of the ring road. We walked into Beaune each day. Next door was the terrific restaurant Le Benaton. We have also stayed outside of Beaune in Chorey le Beaune at the Chateau Chorey Le Beaune. Beautiful 11th century castle with a moat (DH loved that!) and a small vineyard from which they produce their own wine. We had a tasting in the cellars one day. Will you have a car?
Also check out the website www.burgundy-tourism.com. They have terrific brochures you can send away for that provide hotels, motels, inns, b & bs and their rates.

Cocofromdijon,

Spam is a condition of life if you are going to promote yourself on the internet. I'm getting about 600 a day, of which about 100 get past my ISP. You need filters.

I star

Darn cornfuter sent my last message before I was finished . . .

As I was saying, I'm starting to plan a trip for May and June. I always love to visit Burgundy for the food and the wine. Send another post when you are ready for guests. Personally, I hope it does not have very many stars because I don't like to pay a lot for my room!

hello hopscotch I am working on the website but first I'm still hesitating on the rate so I'm going to post a message here very soon...
I want to send a diaporama (hope it's the same word in English!)to those who would wish to give their opinion (or just have a look to Dijon pictures).
hope you'll participate!
have a nice day! :-)
(may and june are perfect for travelling in France ;-) )
