I don't recall buses being convenient ways to travel between popular attractions in Bruges. I did take buses but only between the train station to the center and again to the windmill area. I walked to everywhere else. The city is flat.
I enjoyed walking along the canals at night to see the reflections of flood-lit buildings over water. I enjoyed the canal boat ride in Bruges. In the DVD version of movie "In Bruges," there is an extended scene of a morning canal boat ride in the "extras" part of DVD. You can get a feel of what it is like. |
Hi Joanel
We used the hop-on-hop-off bus in Brussells and it was excellent! The audio commentary helped us with local history and sites, and we certainly saw much more of the city than we would have otherwise. Be sure to see Atomium - it's unique! Allow at least 1 day, & preferably 2 if you plan to hop off at most sites and spend a little time exploring each one. In Bruges we parked the car at the train station then took the bus into the town (there's no parking within the town historical area). If you don't want to do too much walking, the canal tour will give you a good idea of the town, and once again you get a commentary to fill you in on the details. We picked up a walking map from the Visitor Centre, and did our own exploring as well. Happy travels, Di |
with at least 4 days in belgium, i would recommend spending just a day in bruges to get a feel of things, and another 2 days in brussels to fully appreciate everything there.
For the remaining day, i would actually recommend antwerp as a day trip. antwerp has the port and a nice coast and has a number of museums that you might find interesting. on the other hand, if you're a history/World war buff, you could try to make a trip to Ypres or Waterloo to take a look at the monuments there! |
