Burgandy or Bordeaux

We have 3-4 days to spend outside of Paris. What are the recommendations for which region to visit. We will be doing recreational biking for a day or two. We're having trouble deciding....thanks!

Hi mm,

For biking, I think I would choose BurgUndy.

Well some useful links here www.mybikeguide.co.uk basically Bordeaux is flatter (if that is important), do not ignore the Chablis Auxerre area (still in Burgundy) but a bit quieter

There are a million places to go biking for a few days outside Paris, but assuming there is some reason you have narrowed it down to two, BurgUndy is far prettier than the area around Bordeaux.

With Bordeaux ranking as the number four most bike-friendly city in Europe (http://www.businessinsider.com/the-w...es-2013-4?op=1), I wouldn't hesitate and go for that! They have awesome tour guides, or you can just rent a bike and go for it on your own.

And make sure to stop by the Bordeaux Wine School for one of their summer wine tasting workshops, for the best taste of what the region has to offer: http://www.bordeaux.com/uk/wineschoo...course/details.

Part of the issue we have is that there is Bordeaux the city and Bordeaux the wine region. The city itself is not very big but has a big shopping central area.

The Burgundy area is much more scenic.

We've spent several days in Sauternes, St Emillion, and in the city of Bordeaux itself. Nothing on Fodors or on other guide books has motivated me to explore the Medoc around Bordeaux. We have spent 4 weeks in Burgundy & Beaujolais.

I had a fabulous couple of days staying in Beaune, Burgundy, hiring bikes to tour the vineyards. It's very picturesque. There's a great bike hire place run by (I think) a Canadian woman and her french partner: http://www.bourgogne-randonnees.fr/1.html

Good news is they speak English and can provide detailed maps and recommendations of places to visit by bike (involving about 14 vineyards, I'm not sure how they thought we would make it back in one piece!)
