Burano Lace Museum - Murano Glass Museum
 

Has anyone visited the Burano Lace Museum or the Murano Glass Museum. Did you enjoy them? Are they easy to find?

I enjoyed both.
When I visited Burano, there was a group of elderly wifies making lace and chattering nineteen to the dozen.
I told them that I was amazed at their eyesight. The stitches were so tiny that I could hardly see them and none of them were wearing glasses.

Frommer's also recommends the Barovier & Toso Museum
For a really special museum, call for an appointment to visit the Barovier & Toso Museum, Palazzo Contarini, Fondamenta Vetrai 28, Murano (tel. 041-739049). Here Angelo Barovier displays rare glass from his private collection acquired over half a century. Free guided visits are Monday through Friday at 10am, 11am, 3pm, and 4pm.

If you visit the lagoon islands, you should also consider Torcello with its church with spectacular Byzantine mosaics

Many people like the general atmosphere on Burano best.

Before your trip to Venice, rent the DVD of "Summertime" starring K Hepburn and Rosanno Brazzi - one of the most beautiful "travel" films ever made, directed by David Lean of Dr. Zhivago fame. A short part of the story takes place on Burano - "the island where the rainbow fell" as Renato tells Jane - the place where all the houses are painted in a rainbow of colors.
