Buon giorno or buona sera
 

At what time of day, do you switch from buon giorno to buona sera, and buon notte?

Switch to buona sera around 4 p.m. and to buona notte at bed time.

I had a guy correct me one late afternoon, I said Buon giorno and he replied with buona sera....

I think that's not actually necessarily a correction. A bit like saying "How're you doing?" in reponse to "hi!"

The young lady who is teaching us Italian and was a student living in Italy advised me that they switch at mid day - I myself curious on the difference of opinion.

We were told the change takes place after siesta and not at an exact time.<BR>
