Bunratty Medieval Banquet

Has anyone done this recently? I have seen both positive and negative postings on this, and none of the postings are recent. Will be in Ireland with my husband and adult children and thought this might be a fun last night activity. Would appreciate comments.

We didn't do the medieval banquet, but instead did the 'ceilidh in the corn barn'. Rather than harp music and fancy dress, we got step dancing and lamb stew - it was a great deal of fun. Touristy, to the max, but still very enjoyable.

We walked the grounds but did not do the dinner. The grounds are somewhat interesting.

We (a group of nine) went to the banquet about 10 years ago, so my memory isn't that fresh, but I do remember that, upon entry, we were given a glass of some liquor (I have a photo of our group sitting and standing by a fireplace with our drinks). Then we sat at a long table with benches and were entertained by singers while we ate. The meal wasn't gourmet, but it was pretty good. We had lamb stew, brown bread, a really tasty potato salad and pitchers of wine on the table. It was all served family-style. The entertainment continued after dinner, followed by lively music and dancing. We also had a photo taken of our table with some of the servers. It was a fun experience.

Several of my friends and I went and had a wonderful time. Yes, it is touristy, but it was still very fun, the entertainment was nice and the food wasn't bad. Be careful of the mead though- a couple of my friends overindulged and had issues the next morning:). I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

My husband & I did this 3 years ago as a last night entertainment since we were staying close by for an early morning flight. Real touristy, but great fun. The mead wasn't so bad either!

I prefer the one at Dunguaire. Much more intimate.

Travgina - they gave you Meade , a honey based wine. The whole thing is a Disney like tourist trap. You MUST go, now 25 years later it's my most solid memory of our American Express 14 day trip of the UK...on the bus, of the bus...on the bus, off the bus....

Did it about 10 years ago, because it was included in our tour. Although kind of hokey and very touristy, and Disney-esque for sure, overall I remember it as fun. And the food, as others say, really wasn't that bad at all. But, yep that mead can really put you under the table! I'd say go, have fun and recognize it for what it is, a tailor made for tourists show. It's the only medieval banquet I've ever done so can't compare it with others.
