Bunratty B&B
Can anyone recommend a B&B witin walking distance of Durty Nelly's that is open in Febuary?

Have you checked www.dunaree.com?

Bunratty Courtyard is more of a guesthouse but it is an easy walk to Durty Nellie's. It's on the same road. A lot of the Bunratty B&B's are on the Low Road past the castle. The road is narrow with a good bit of traffic. I wouldn't want to walk it especially after dark. We stayed at Bunratty Courtyard in May 2004 and were very pleased...huge room. www.bunrattycourtyard.com

We stayed at Park House in October, and loved it. We have also stayed at Ashgrove House and loved it for different reasons. Both are on the low road and we have walked to Nellie's from both. However, it is a narrow road and VERY dark. If you decide to walk it, be sure you have a flashlight!

I also recommend Dunaree. Just down the road (5 minute walk) from Durty Nelly's.

Park House is one of the closest and it is very nice. You should be able to make the walk in about 5 mins, maybe a bit more. The locals will tell you it takes about three, but never trust the locals to give you accurate walking or driving times. They are usually way short. I believe they use a different clock :-)

We stayed at the Bunratty Courtyard in June 2004. We highly recommend it. Mary and her husband are delightful. It is definitely within walking distance of Durty Nelly's.

PS When walking back to the Bunratty Courtyard at night, I wouldn't be concerned as the traffic is minimal. Remember--this is a small village.

We stayed at the Bunratty Castle Hotel two years ago. It is RIGHT NEXT TO Bunratty Castle and Durty Nelly's, so you can have that extra pint if you want to. The rooms were big, as were the bathrooms. They are also very clean. I'd say it's equivilant to an American 3 1/2 star hotel. It's not the nicest place that I've evern stayed in, but I would stay there again. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The restaurant was just okay. We had a really good time at the bar there and at Durty Nelly's. I love to sing!!

Here's a cut/paste from my trip report concerning Bunratty Castle Hotel:
"We discovered a great pub called Kathleen's in the Bunratty Castle Hotel. That will be our future watering hole on any future trips. "Just out of curiousity, I asked the hotel clerk what the rate was, and he told me 182 Euro a night which included breakfast. The Bunratty Lodge for 70 Euro for the two of us was a steal." I guess if you want to shell out the Euro, it is certainly in walking distance of Durty Nelly's. ((b)) |
