Bullfight - Seville or Madrid

We will be in Seville and Madrid early May and want to go to a bullfight. What bullfight would you suggest? Thank you.

Robert2533 Feb 9th, 2015 07:27 PM

May is the start of the Festival of San Isidro in Madrid. It's one of the largest bullfighting festivals in Spain. That would be your best place to see a decent bullfight in May. The festival begins on the 15th. The schedules will not be up for awhile.

Wee will be in Madrid May 3 thru May 7th - looks like we will miss the bullfights in Madrid?

donnae_b Feb 9th, 2015 08:50 PM

Are Seville bullfights only on Sunday?

Robert2533 Feb 9th, 2015 10:24 PM

Outside of the major festivals, yes!

EVENT
PLAZA DE TOROS DE MADRID
Robert - this bullfight is May 3rd right? Do you know what time these start and if we should buy our tickets now?
Also .. does it matter how much we pay for tickets?
Thank you,

Robert2533 Feb 12th, 2015 09:49 PM

The bullfights on the 3rd of May are listed as "Corrida de toros or corrida de novillos". Contracts haven't been signed as yet, which is not unusual. Contracts are not normally signed more than a month or two in advance except for the major festivals.

I would wait to see who is fighting on the 3rd, a Sunday, and buy them at the plaza ticket office if you want to go.

A corrida de toros means a seasoned matador will be fighting. The corrida de novillos means a young novice will be in the bullring, so you never know what will happen. Remember that the best matadors fighting today started this way.

Robert2533,
Thank you - we will get into Madrid from Seville around 2pm and will find out who is fighting and determine best time to head over to plaza then. Thank you for giving us knowledge that will help our experience in Spain.

Robert2533 Feb 15th, 2015 08:55 PM

Anytime! Enjoy the experience.

As a side note, we have, over the years, had the privilege to meet Julián López, "El Juli", on a few occasions, Juan José Padilla, the "Pirate", before and after he lost his left eye to an errant horn, "El Fandi", David Fandila, who ran in the NY Marathon a few yeas ago and said it was more difficult then fighting bulls, Enrique Ponce, another classic bullfighter, Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, currently the best matador fighting from horseback, and Francisco Marco, like Pablo Mendoza, is from Navarra.

Robert2533,
We are going to Spain from the middle of September to the 2nd of October. This will be our first time there. My hubby wanted to attend a Bullfight so I planed our Itinerary in hopes of this. We will be in Madrid on Sunday September 20th. I had read somewhere that they held Bullfights on Sunday nights in September. Do you know if this is the case? We will also be in Seville on September 25th which is the start of the San Miguel Festival. From checking last years schedule the main fights were on the Saturday and Sunday. Do you know if they held any on the first day/night which would be the Friday? I thought the Seville arena would be really nice. I have tried to check but can't find anything. Thanks so much for your help

Donnae_b sorry for asking on your post.

I hated bull fights, it's not fair, They weaken the bull first. I cried

Robert2533 Feb 16th, 2015 09:17 PM

Typically, fights are held on Sundays outside of fiestas. You will have to wait until the end of August to see which ranches will be supplying the bulls and who will be fighting.

The San Miguel Festival in Sevilla will be holding bullfights on Saturday and Sunday, the same as last year. The dates for 2015 are September 25th–29th.

bit my tongue ;-)

Why bilbo? It's murder of a dumb animal in a most gruesome way. If anyone thinks this is a Spanish tradition and therefore acceptable, they're deluded. It's a bloody and awful spectacle.
