Buffalo Mozzarella farms near Paestum
My family plan a stop in Paestum enroute to Matera from Positano. We plan on visiting the Greek temples and possibly a buffalo mozzarella farm( I love buffalo mozzarella!). I am reading that there are a few and would appreciate suggestions. We don't have tons of times but any info on the different ones and how to organize a tour and how long it would take would be appreciated.. We will be there on Wednesday May 18,2016. Do we have to worry about security of luggage there as well?

Do a search here for the report I wrote after my visit to Vannulo, just oyrside Paestum. They offer tours in English, often in the morning, but check by phone.

I second the Vannulo recommendation. You can also arrange for a private tour, but it will obviously cost extra.
You MUST have a cannolo when you visit - they are fabulous. You can also get some to-go, and they will pack the ricotta separately so the cookie does not get soggy. I have stopped at a few others, but IMO Vannulo is the best. I would not worry about luggage in the car at Vannulo, if you are careful about where you park. But you should not leave luggage unattended in the car at Paestum or anywhere else, even when you stop for gas. This is always reinforced by an Italian friend who lives in Salerno. |
Thank you ekscrunchy for posting that link. I've read so many trip reports in preparation for our trip that I'm confused now when trying to find a reference!
