Budget Paris Hotels - Article in San Francisco Chronicle
 

There is a good article on budget Paris hotels in the May 9 issue of the S.F. Chronicle. The on-line link is:

The article has recomendations from LP and RS, plus some from two books by authors I am not familiar with, Great Sleeps by Sandra Gustafson and Hello France by Margo Classe. Gustafson and Classe have some particularly interesting recommendations with very detailed descriptions.

..interesting list with over half "regulars" on this board..I would be interested in this board's list of their favorites (for under 150 euro dble)..but repeat recommendations not allowed..i would also be interested in what makes a recommendation a favorite

Why would you go to an article in the S.F.Chronicle about budget hotels in Paris when you get much better info. on this post? You can be pretty much assured that Chronicle writers probably make one trip to Paris every 10 years, if that!

that doesn't change what I said before. you can get much better info. on those hotels by reading through these posts.

further-most of those hotels are in areas most people don't want to stay in when they go to Paris.

..so what is your favorite centrally located under 150 for a dble and why.?.and please none on the list! and why..and no repeats

I saw your recommendation on Hotel Bonaparte. When I did search it looks like they don't have a website. Can you tell us why you like the hotel so well? Also do you have a link with pictures. I don't like to book something without seeing it first. I guess I am spoiled by the web.

The article in question did not relate the experiences of Chronicle writers. It quoted and/or paraphrased from four books. Since the subject of Paris hotels is a hot topic, if not the number one topic, on this forum I thought it would be an interesting contribution here. Yes, many of the hotels have been mentioned many times, but a few are probably new. Take it for what it is -- other opinions by travel writers.

I did see the article which happened to mention specific rooms to ask for at the Muguet. Having made reservations there months ago for a week's stay in Ocotber, I e mailed the hotel asking for one of those rooms. The response was that reservations are not made for specific room numbers. This was stated on this forum many times. There you have it.

You can still read in Great Sleeps Paris to reserve certain Eiffel Tower view rooms at the Muguet. In reality, you cannot do that. Perhaps Ms. Gustafson, the author, is not updating her information.
