budget meals in dublin
 

I'm coming to Dublin in October for the Dublin Marathon staying at the Gresham (hotel arrangements with Joints in Motion, the fundraising program of the Arthritis Foundation) Breakfasts included, and 2 dinners are included, but I need recommendations for the least expensive meals possible...pub grub, early bird specials... where do we go for cheap meals??

Some good places to go for relatively cheap dinners are Cafe Bar Deli on South Great Georges Street (mainly pizzas but also a few other dishes - the couscous with roast vegetables is fantastic). Milano in Temple Bar or Dawson Street also do good pasta/pizza dishes. 101 Talbot on Talbot Street (also very close to your hotel) is an excellent restaurant. Not "cheap" per se, but very reasonable.

Just off Grafton Street - Mao does great fusion food and Wagamama on South King Street does great noodles.

O'Neills on Suffolk Street or Davy Byrnes on Duke Street both do good pub food.

For lunch, your restaurant is very close to Lower Liffey Street - if you can, try the Epicurean Food Hall there - it's fantastic.

Most Pubs do not serve after 7-8pm. I would 2nd Milanos in Temple Bar and Dawson street. Epicurian Food Hall (CLoses 5 or 6om great choices for a fodd hall). Wagamamma is good cheap Asian Food at the top of Grafton Street. Trentuno on Wicklow street is a good Pizza/Pasta place. My favourite is Cafe/Bar/Deli - no reservations accepted good choice. Also a few cafes are open off Grafton Street Late Night Cafe Java (S. Anne Street) and Metro or "Busyfeet and coco Cafe".

I cannot remember the specific names of the places I went, but a good budget hint is the soup. It was delicious filling and inexpensive in pubs and sandwich shops. It came with excellent brown bread. The first time I ordered a sandwich also and could not eat it after the filling soup. I would choose it even if not on a budget, so good!!

There us a great soup place called Soup Gragon on Capel street and near the Parliament Street Bridge. It is the best home made soups in my opinion in Dublin. They also make fresh smoothies. There is also an Italian place across the road called Romayos or Romanos?? It is an Italian place that has cycling memorabelia on the walls and meant to have good food at a reasonable price
