Budget Management

Planning travel from NY to England mid-July 2023 for the first time in almost 20 years! Hoping for advice on booking affordable airfare and travel insurance. We got burned in 2020 when my husband’s health crisis happened to coincide w the pandemic and the insurer fought us for our claim. Looking for an honest company with reasonable coverage JIK (that hopefully won’t skyrocket the cost of our travel). I just want to have confidence that if another health crisis we’re to occur, it won’t take a year and hours of my time trying to get our money back.

There have been some threads lately on airfare sticker shock / unaffordable airfares (I started one last year and Debbielynn had one also, click on my screen name for a list of my threads) because many of us are finding airfares expensive. One person had a tip to travel from Canada to Europe because they said airfares were better. That might work for you, but basically we are largely all in the same boat (I am in Australia and find fares horrendous). If you can, search airfares via a calendar (i.e. if you can be flexible and go either side of a given date, you might get a special or a better fare). Use Matrix ITA software / Skyscanner / Kayak to search for the best fares. I will leave it to someone else in N. America to advise about travel insurance. Good luck!

Airfare/insurance

Thanks, @Lavendula. It’s good to know I’m not just being “cheap”! Lol
