Budget Hotels Paris
 

There are so many threads on Paris Hotels, but my enquiry is very specific. I have another thread going in which I have asked advice re inner-city hotels vs. outlying areas, and one of the advantages of outlying areas is price. I come from a part of the world where the exchange rate for euros (or US $'s for that matter) makes what by local standards may be reasonably-priced hotels, horrendously expensive ones to me. So my question is, if we go for the inner-city opion, what can we expect for 85-90 euros (approx $105-$112 $US) per double room per night? What comforts would we NOT get for that price? Can anyone suggest any OK hotels in Paris Latin Qtr or thereabouts in that range?

You will find offerings within your price range and while it's not the Ritz, you can expect a clean and comfortable room with a TV, bath and a reasonably priced breakfast option. Take a look and enjoy your trip to Paris!

You can definitely find rooms in that range in the 4th thru 7th central arrondisements. Latin Quarter has tons of places. Start with using the "search" function on this site. What you will find is most likely a cute, tiny, possibly somewhat worn, but clean, charming, and comfortable room. Hotel with lobby on street level, lots of stairs, no elevator (just generalizing here). Check Rick Steves for several hotels he's big on up near Rue Cler in the 7th. Also for the budget price you should decide if you'd rather have funky but "atmospheric" or plain and functional (isn't Ibis chain like a Motel 6 in the States?).

I can't vouch for their services as I haven't any experience with them, but I thought Fil Franck offered good packages in many price ranges. I especially like the fact that the package included airport tranfers! Maybe someone else on the forum has some experience with these tour companies....

I think Ibis hotels are a step up from Motel 6, although to be fair, I've not stayed in the latter. We stayed in the Ibis at Porte d'Italie recently. Very clean, functional, modern, cookie cutter rooms, 1/2 mile from the RER. There is a bar and restaurant. Views of a parking lot, cemetery, and the highway. But it's cheap. (And they'll leave the light on for you!)

Thanks for the Ibis suggestion. I stayed in an Ibis in Cologne and found it perfectly acceptable, so if I can get one similar in Paris within my price range I'll be thrilled. Thanks also for the website suggestions - I'll check them out. Has anyone heard of a Hotel la Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter?

Another Latin Quarter hotel that meets your specs is the Hotel Monge. Great location on rue Monge near the Roman arena (some of the back rooms have a view), clean and cheerful, decent sized rooms, helpful staff. I know they have rooms for about 84 euros.

If you need to go even cheaper, try the Hotel du Septieme Art, which is across the river in the Marais and has rooms starting at 75 euros. Again, it's a great location (I actually prefer it to the Latin Quarter), although here the rooms are smaller and darker than the Monge (but then again, cheaper too).

and for about 70'es a double two double beds...(so what would that be now $86 a night?), I can recommend Hotel St. Andre des Arts...
in the 6eme... its a 1 star, but very clean, and well very old...but I ENJOYED stayed in a building built in the 15th century! OK, so no TV, but its own ensuite bath...with a tub...and our room had those wonderful "french doors' with metal grills across them...I liked the neighborhood. And its easy as pie to get everywhere ...

I agree that Hotel Residence Monge sounds like it would fit the bill for you. Modern ammenities, quiet, balconies on street side rooms, A/C, breakfast, nice decor, etc. We paid $95 euro per night last summer and would stay there again.

A very nice adress, two stars hotel one of the quietest of paris : hotel CHOPIN, passage Jouffroy, just next door
from musée Grévin and half mile from Opera.
Rooms are not so small, all with bath or showers, and as they give on the "passage", no rumor from the streets.
Only inconvenient : only 33 rooms and so you have to book early...

No one has mentioned Hotel St. Christophe in the 5th district; rates look pretty inexpensive. Going by the reviews on tripadvisor.com they are all favorable. Website address: www.charm-hotel-paris.com

We stayed at Hotel St Christophe in 2002. While it is a nice hotel in a good location, I didn't care for all the whooshy plumbing sounds traveling down through the building. I've stayed in other inexpensive hotels and never noticed that before, must depend on the age of the building itself, or something. I have no other negatives about it, though.
Our twin in October '02 was the high end of the price range. The 8Euro breakfast was alright but nothing special; ate a better 8Euro breakfast at a nearby cafe one day. Isn't that high for a cafe?
