Budget Hotels in Venice
Coupla' first-timers headed to Venice. Looking for some budget hotels but nothing too "ratty." Nice, safe, etc. I've heard the Hotel Ai Tolentini, Ai do Mori and Locanda San Barnaba are decent. Any recs or opinions? Much thanks.

Hello Italy Roockie,
We where in Venice in June and stayed at the Holiday Inn-Marghera.
It's a great Hotel, we did alot of hotel shopping... and this was one was very affordable.. the reason, it's because it's located on the main land instead of at the heart of Venice.
Take a look at the web site for pictures of the hotel
Here's the web site http://www.sixcontinentshotels.com/holiday-inn
And guests can leave their cars in the large parking lot and take a convenient shuttle bus that quickly travels the 8 km separating the hotel from Piazzale Roma, where the terminal for ferry boats that travels throughout Venice is located.
You will love Venice !!
Enjoy
Lucie
I think the hotel Lucie mentions is in the Mestre area, which is OK, but in my opinion nothing like the real Venice. If you're only there for a couple of days, the travelling to Venice Island & back would tak up too much of your valuable time. We've stayed in a sweet little hotel near the station (in Cannareggio) called Hotel Abbazia, a converted Abbey (it still has the pulpit & some church furniture dotted around the public areas! Pretty little garden & friendly staff who speak excellent English. Rooms were basic but comfortable & clean, and the one we stayed in was pretty, although the view looked over the back of the hotel, so would recommend requesting a nice view. It's got its own website www.abbaziahotel.com, so you can book direct, but I would check rates on www.venere.com, as sometimes the rates are better.........good luck......and Roberto, chill out!

Albergho Santa Lucia, near the train station, big rooms, one of the less expensive places in Venice.

guestinitaly.com

I'm going on my first trip in just a few weeks. We have reservations at the Hotel Galleria in Venice...right around 100&euro! night. Seems to be a pretty good place. Some friends stayed at Locanda Nova last year and enjoyed it. Kind of depends on what you call "budget". I have a file of posts that I saved on Venice... if you'd like it, send me an email.

Enjoy your trip!

Anne

I tried to book some nights in September at Hotel Galleria (it looked pefect for the $), but they were booked. So THEY recommended Locando Novo, which I hadn't heard of, did some research on and believe it will be great. Perfect location, great price, etc. www.LocandaNovo.com

FYI: The Galleria's website is www.HotelGalleria.com
Some guide books listed it as www.Galleria.com, but that is an Italian porn site, so I found out by accident. :{
