budget hotels in salzburg?

Am looking for an inexpensive hotel in Salzburg - does such a thing exist? We will be there in July and there are four of us (two adults and two teenagers). Any suggestions - preferably with an e-mail address or web site. My usual method of searching for hotels, which works great in Paris, Rome , Venice -- is turning up nothing for Salzburg. Help.

Ann, try http://salzburg.nethotels.com/ (for English click top right). I found about six places for around $75.00/night per two-bed bed room.
Also, http://www.austrian-hotelreservation...ish/index.html but they only seem to have rates until March. You could e-mail.
Also found a website for Koppl, a village some 5 km from Salzburg. Lodging (sometime s in apartments is about 20 Euros per person.night, some do have e-mail and websites, but mostly it's all in German.
Exception: http://members.aon.at/koppl/waldhof/ They have English info.
http://members.aon.at/koppl/nocksteinblick/ In german, but look slike a bargain
http://www.riedlwirt.at/ with tennis courts
Another website (in English) for the region of 7 villages near Salzburg http://www.fuschlseeregion.com/lodging/guide.pl?lang=en Onc eyou find a place that looks okay, do a search for it. Some of them are on other sites (with rates). Again, on average, about 20 Euros/person/night with breakfast.
Good luck!

Sorry for posting the above twice. Also try http://www.placestostay.com . Hotel Sallerhof looks quite nice (48.00 euros/night for double room), cf. http://www.sallerhof.at/index2.htm

I was in Schwarzes Rössl on summer 00. Nice and huge bedroms typically decorated, the only but is public bathrooms. It is centrally located within walking distance to Mirabell gardens, Dom etc. Website: www.academia-hotels.co.at. Rates are about 50-60 EUROS.

Cristina

Ann, you didn't mention what you consider inexpensive, but the I've stayed at the following two hotels that I would consider belonging to that category:

Hotel Weisses Kreuz, near Kapitalplatz, around EUR 70-90 for a dbl. w/bath & breakfast, very simple rooms but good buy for the excellent location
http://www.salzburginfo.at/topic_rest/client/weisses_kreuz/first_e.htm

Hotel Amadeus, on the "other" side of the Salzach (same side as Mirabell, Marionette Theater, etc.), they have an apt. for 4 people w/breakfast for EUR 188, and doubles run EUR 130 (all prices for summer season). It's a 5 minute walk to the heart of the Altstadt.

I stayed at Amadeus in 1999 and really enjoyed the staff; however, last year, some posts here had less than positive comments for the same hotel. I posted some notes on my last trip to Salzburg in 2001 if you are interested (try searching for "Weisses Kreuz" or "Piran").

I love Salzburg and hope that you have a wonderful vacation!

If you visit http://www.salzburginfo.at/desk/frame_home_e.htm and click on "hotel map" under the shortcuts menu, you will see the hotel layout in the city.

I have used two hotels in Salzburg that I rate as "budget". In 2000 we stayed at the Golden Duck, Gasthotel zur goldenen Ente, located on Goldgasse in the Old Town, just off the square where Mozart's statue stands. Our room was small, but fine. The breakfast was outstanding. But that is the norm I find in Austria and Bavaria. In the places we have stayed, in Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna there has not been even an average breakfast; all have been to my tastes something very very good.
Last year we stayed at the pension Sallerhof. Our room was acceptable, but not luxurious. The bath room was ok. The beds were large, about equal to our king sized beds. The food for breakfast was plentiful and good.
And the young man in charge spoke good English.
The Sallerhof offers free parking and it is not far from Schloss Hellbrunn.
It is an easy drive into town along the river, but the question arises of where do you store your car? We found parking expensive, just like any big US city.
Bus 55 I recall goes there and it would be a cheaper alternative than a $12 - $15 parking fee unless you are taking a car load of people.
Several times on this forum, I have recommended the Hotel Trumer Stube. It is right around the corner from Mozart's birthplace on Getriedegasse. When we stayed there in 1999, we paid around $80 per night for a nice clean room with a good breakfast. The location was really fabulous. Check out their website to request info. http://www.trumer-stube.at/.
