socailworker I agree, many people can't afford a honeymoon at all, just having a week in a city like Paris is a wonderful start for most couples, and romantic in itself.

Over your price range but worth a look. The location is great.

>>Why would it save time and fuss or hassle to get a carnet in London rather than in Paris? Why would it save time and fuss or hassle to get a carnet in London rather than in Paris? <<

The "helpful" people and scammers hanging around the metro ticket machines at the Gare du Nord. For people new to Paris, it all adds potential hassle; and queueing for the manned windows with so many of the other people who've just got off the Eurostar is one more. Being able to sail straight through is an advantage.

Socialworker: Yes we are young! Actually only 23 and 22. We are very fortunate to even be going and we are trying to budget as much as possible as this is on our own dime! All we are concerned about is it being clean and centralized. We figure we wont be in the hotel room all that much and would like to spend our money on more things out in the city.

Thank you everyone for all your responses! This has helped us tremendously, I cant thank you all enough.

Since you'll be on a budget in Paris, you might be interested in downloading a copy of Patricia Wells' Food Lover's Guide to Paris (www.foodloversparis.com) for the iPad and iPhone. It's an essential guide to dining right in the city of light.

Hotel du Lion in the 14th is very comfortable and clean. We liked the area--a nice market street is nearby (Rue Daguerre) and very convenient metro lines just across the street. Our room had a (distant) view of the Eiffel Tower. http://www.paris-hotel-lion.com/

There are a few IBIS(formerly ETAP) hotels in the Porte d'Italie/Place d'Itali area starting at about $80 US. I have stayed in them; they are perfectly adequate for a shower and a bed; no more, no less; a good choice for a budget traveler.

I agree, but for someone on a honeymoon, even budget, and who wants to be central near cafes and ambience, I don't think any IBis or ETAP on a highway around Paris is really the best choice.

You can stay at the Hotel Sunny in the 5th arrondissement, it is ideally located and very welcoming !
