Sorry,yet another request for a budget hotel in this area. I thought I had one all lined up, but they are booked. Then when I started looking, all the ones on my list were booked. All I need is a hotel for my last night in Rome (10/13) before flying out early the next morning. So basically, all I want is a clean, inexpensive place near P. Navona or Campo. My budget is under $130. All we will be doing is packing up and sleeping one night and maybe splurging for a really nice last dinner in Rome. Hotel Primavera is not responding to my faxes, Residenza San Pantaleo is booked as is Pantheon View B&B. I know there must be some little places near the Campo di Fiori, but for the life of me I can't seem to find any. Looked in all the recommended places - did a text search, venere, etc. Can anyone help? DO NOT want to stay near train station.

When I stayed in rome for a few days, solo, 2 yrs ago, I stayed at the Hotel Campo de Fiori which steps off the Campo de Fiori.

I had a double with a private but I see that their rooms without an ensuite bathroom are running about
100 E /night.
I thought it was a pleasant enough hotel.
and their view from their rooftop terrace is stunning!

nanb: Thanks for the response. It looks like a great location and the pictures look good. I just think $150 for one night is a little high for us. I'm not sure I want to go down the hall to the bathroom. I just got another rejection email from Hotel Smeraldo. They said their new hotel just across the street, Parione, has rooms. The Smeraldo doesn't post their rates, but I think I read somewhere they were around $130. Has anyone ever heard of the Parione? I can't believe the hotels are booked up this far ahead, that's 4.5 months! Any other suggestions?

I would suggest checking eurocheapo.com for a budget hotel. When you pull up the hotel you can post your date of stay and it will let you know if they have a room available. You can cross check available hotels at tripadvisor.com. Keep in mind that many Americans expect a hotel similar to a Holiday Inn, Marriot, etc. without realizing that hotels in Europe in general tend to have much smaller rooms. Some of the posts reflect this dissatisfaction.

We stayed at Hotel Navona, clean basic 2 star. Excellent location. We paid 100 euro for a double. I would stay there again. PJ

Oh, I forgot to mention Hotel Parlamento. We will be in Rome on June 4th and we just confirmed our room for 3 nights. They were very good at communicating with us regarding availability and when we finally booked they were very accomodating and friendly! Rates start at about 100 euros. www.hotelparlamento.it.

Eurotraveller - where is the Hotel Parlamento located. It does not give a map with their web page and "between Spanish Steps, Trevi and Pantheon" is a little vague. Thanks.

Barb, It is practically on the piazza. Close to everything, the management that runs the hotel are wonderful. PJ

Barb, I have been to Rome before and this is an ideal location, very central to major sights. The location is Piazza di Spagna.

Hotel Navona: They do not accept credit cards and in Frommer's there's note of no hairdryer (not sure if these still apply this year).

The Parlamento looks good, but maybe a little over our budget. Does anyone know anything about the Hotel Pomezia. I did a text search, but they are pretty old threads and sounds like maybe before they renovated. The location looks good, very near Campo - any comments on this hotel?

Barb, you said that the Hotel Primavera is not responding to your faxes, but have you called them? That's what we did and had no problem making arrangements for a room over the phone. We just sent them a check for a deposit for one night (out of four) and our room was there as promised.

How about the Relais Banchi Vecchi near the Campo dei Fiore? It's a small B&B with good sized rooms and baths and reasonable prices --www.banchivecchi115.com

I'm beginning to think the one night is the clincher. I have emailed Pomezia and will see what they have to say. I read somewhere that it was like Faulty Towers. Capo: do they speak English at Primavera? That would be great as that was my first choice. I will also take a look at Relais Banchi Vecchi. You guys are great!

Well the Relais requires a minimum 2 night stay.

Hi Barb. Si! The grandmother and son (unfortunately I forget their names) at the Primavera both speak good English, and are very friendly as well. The mother, on the on the other hand, didn't seem to speak English at all. As I recall we spoke with the son.

They have have a more-than-one-night minimum. Not sure since we stayed there for four nights.

Hi Barb, We stayed at Hotel Primavera and also had a lot of trouble contacting them by fax. I ended up ringing them and also had not difficulty booking. A really nice, reasonable place in a terrific location.
