Budget hotel in London required, Vauxhall or Southwark

My preferred area was Victoria or Pimlico until I tried to find reasonably priced accommodations for June 2016. I'm flying in/out of Gatwick so I thought those two areas would be the best choice. Hard to believe that many of the hotels, even the chain hotels, were already booked (price range is up to £120/night for a double).
Now I am considering Vauxhall or Kennington, even Southwark, thinking that perhaps the cost would be less than Kensington or Chelsea. What is your assessment of these areas? I do not want to go as far north as St. Pancras or west to Earl's Court.

Regarding LondonTown, do the hotel prices fluctuate very much? Perhaps I can wait until early 2016 to start my hotel hunt.

Thanks

£120 should be very doable w/ going out to Hell and Gone. Of those three areas, Southwark (depending on the actual location) would be most central/convenient.

But it is very early to be booking so it may be that some budget places haven't set their 2016 rates yet and aren't booking.

Room rates can be very date specific -- like a Travelodge for example, the rates can vary £20-£50 up or down on specific dates. Might be £60 or £70 one night and £110 the next.

Have you looked at Travelodge and Premier Inn properties in central London?

If you sign up to Travelodge and Premier Inn websites, they often have short on-line specials that they only offer to subscribers. Di

If the rooms are available then (I don't know), you can get cheap, central rooms with LSE Vacations, including features like private bath if you want them. But the calendar is not open yet that far ahead:

Maybe give them a call and see.

I've stayed at the Comfort Inn in Vauxhall through Priceline and it was fine. What does Priceline Express or Hotwire show you for your dates (although it may well be too far ahead)?

Of course, if you are booking your trip during a major event, then who knows what that might do to prices.

W/o knowing your budget it is really hard to help much . . .

Thanks for all replies. I was able to book a double room at The Cherry Court Hotel today.
Bonus: My budget was £120 per night and this was well below and in my preferred area!
