Budget accomodation in Strasbourg, Colmar or nearby??

Need some help with budget accommodation for any of the areas mentioned. My husband and I will be there over Christmas and the Youth Hostels are closed Christmas Day, some a bit longer. Just want something clean, cheery and preferably with parking available??? Thanks

We stayed at Hotel St. Martin*** which was $99 per night for a double including breakfast. www.hotel-saint-martin.com

Our friends stayed at Hotel Turenne** and paid something like $69 per night including breakfast for a double. Turenne was voted the best hotel in Colmar (???)by the Germans. It was basic.

There are parking lots in Colmar. Some are pay and some are free. If pay, you will see a box at a pay point to obtain a ticket. Hotel St. Martin did not have a parking lot but free parking was close. Turenne had its own underground parking. It was close to the "Petit Venice" area but a further walk from the center of town (10 minutes). www.turenne.com

Look in the Rick Steves book for further information.

Here is a web site for hotels in the Alsace region.

http://www.visit-alsace.com/hotels/hotels_ang_3e.html

We stayed at Hotel L'Ami Fritz, in Ottrott, and were very pleased. About $100.00. A nice place to have dinner also.

We took day trips to Strasbourg and Colmar. Don't forget to stop at Obernai for sites & shopping. A lovely little place.

Hey Olivia,

I'm going to be in Strasbourg over Thanksgiving, and I've booked a room at Hotel Gutenberg( 03 88 32 17 15 can't remember the website address, but try hotelgutenberg.com). I'll be staying in a top floor room with shower for 53 Euros/night. It looks down on a pedestrian street with a partial view of the Cathedrale - sounds very cute.
Another budget option is Hotel de L'Ill ( 03 88 36 20 01 ) which is "the best bargain in Strasbourg" according to Rough Guides.
( www.travel.roughguides.com) If you go to their Strasbourg page, there are a few more budget hotels listed. I don't know about the parking situation for either of those places though.
Hope this helps and don't forget to eat some Tarte Flambee!!

When in Strasbourg we stayed at an inexpensive hotel called Hotel de l'Europe on rue Fosse des Tanneurs. The room we had was a very old-fashioned one, sloping and creaking floor and a bright blue bathroom. But I understand there are many modern rooms as well. The hallways have very nicely designed carpeting with antiques on the side. It's a very old building but it's well-maintained. Breakfast is a good buffet in a very nice breakfast room. Paid around $140 for a triple room. It's within walking distance to La Petite France and the Cathedral. Very central and very nice and friendly staff.
