Budget accommodation in Rome
 

My Wife and I are going to Rome in the next few weeks for a short 3 or 4 day stay. We need some help with selecting budget accommodation not to far from the sights.
Can anyone please give me some suggestions.

Rome seems very expensive to me... I've been looking a bit, too.
Better to state what you're willing to pay.

As I can get a four star hotel here in Perth WA, for about $150AU a night, I find it difficult to pay around $200 for a two or three star hotel in Rome.
Perhape I don't live in the real world.

With a longer timespan, you might have been able to book budget, good-quality convent accommodation. Your chances of doing that now are rather low. But on the off-chance something is available, search for earlier threads on the subject.

When comparing Perth costs to Rome costs, you have to consider real estate and fixed expenses. The historic center of Rome is very small and the number of tourists is extremely large. Plus, you are going when it's still the tourist season (early October).

Check out www.hotelpanda.it. Prices are from E568-98 for a double. We stayed there Jan. '05 and were very pleased. It's right across from the Spanish Steps, which is convenient to everything, including the metro, if you're not a walker. But we walked everywhere and were fine. Service was pretty friendly; hotel was basic, but clean and in a fantastic location!

If you can handle a convent stay with the bath down the hall, try Instituto Santa Juliano de Falconeri. I butchered the name but you should be able to find a website for it. The location is just off of Piazza Navona.
Probably 100 euro or less per night.
