Budget accommodation in Dublin
 

Can anyone advise a decent and affordable place in Dublin to stay for a couple on tight budget, on their first ever trip to Ireland for couple of days? Easy access to city centre preferable.

They have deals on most hotels, and it's worth checking out the special offers - for example right now they are offering 2 nights B&B at the 3* Ashling Hotel to include dinner one evening for just 99 euros per person!

Also had a co-worker recommend the Harding Hotel (right next to Christ Church Cathedral). We decided to try a Hostel instead, didn't care for it and hindsight being 20/20, should have taken my co-worker's advice.

I did see the outside of Harding Hotel in passing on my visit (looked fine) as we were on our way to CCC . You may want to check out their website and trip advisor, I seem to recall that the rates were pretty good for city center.

Jurys Inn on Christchurch is quite reasonable for rooms rates, they dont include breakfast but you can buy breakfast cheap enough in most cafe's nearby. Also Days Inn Hotel in Rathmines,a Dublin suburb but only 15 mins from the City Centre.Kilronan Guesthouse on Adelaide Road is very nice, and only 10mins walk from Trinity College. Trinity Lodge is nice ,South Frederick Street. Dont feel you have to stay right in the City Centre, as anywhere even 20-30 mins outside is very accessible by bus,and Luas( tram). If you are on a tight budget, I recommend eating evening meals or lunch in pubs, as they are much cheaper than restaurants and most often the food is more wholesome. I've stayed at the Harding Hotel. The location is great. I don't recall the price but we are budget travellers. There is a pub at street level that can be quite noisy on Saturday nights. The location is great, on the edge of Temple Bar and within walking distance of most of the sights.

The Lonely Planet Ireland Guidebook gives high marks to several centrally-located B&Bs. These two appear to be the best for the money: Anchor Guesthouse (www.anchorguesthouse.com) and Clifton Guesthouse (www.cliftonhouse.com).

I am in the same situation, trying to find an affordable hotel in Dublin (around US$100.00/room)for July 2006. I got these at Expedia: Best Western, Harcourt and Paramount, but I am not sure about location=noise level at night (read Trip Advisor reviews).
I found a B&B: ABC House
http://www.bedandbreakfastireland.ne...n_ABCHouse.htm , but it seems that you need to take a bus to get to the center and I would prefer to stay at walking distance. Maybe someone here can help with these options.

The Best Weatern Ashling Hotel is near Heuston Station and I believe it would be a really long walk to the center. I stayed once on Harcourt St. and walked by Harcourt Hotel a number of times and I believe it has a night club and would be noisy. I know nothing about Paramount. It is a problem getting reasonable accommodations in Dublin. I wish you luck and a great trip. Joan

Do avoid Gardiner street as i feel its a bit dodgy for tourists at night. The anchor mentioned aboe is on this. Try the Mercer Hotel. It has a hotel and a cheaper section that is one step up from Hostel but cheaper than Jurys and is in town near Grafton street.

Try B&B's as well as they are usually cheaper and on bus routes. Some Hostels offer rooms without ensuite try www.backpacker.ie.

A lot of the "cheap" hotels in Dublin are either noisy, dodgy or just awful - if you let us know exactly what your budget is perhaps someone here can assist. I would try not to skimp too much on your accomodation in Dublin though as it could be the ruination of your holiday!

What is your opinion on The Regency Hotel at Swords Road, Whitehall, Dublin 9 ? I found a very good deal online (Dublin Tourism Accommodation Booking) - so good that it made me dubious ;-)

Don't stay there. The area is not very interesting.

In the summer Trinity College rents its dorm rooms to travelers.

4mccoy, I was just in Dublin a week ago and stayed at the Harcourt Hotel. We stayed there for only 90Euro a night, the location was great right near trinity college. The rooms were very clean. The only thing we had a little problem with was actually getting to the hotel, I would suggest if you have a rental car dropping it off outside city center and taking a cab.

I think harcourt street if fine so long as you do not have a street facing room and stay on a high floor.

I keep forgetting about this place http://www.graftonguesthouse.com/ its a great price, location and fairly new. It is also smacjk in toen near all pubs, shops restaurants and a lovely old building.

God do not stay in Whitehall...its too far out of town a long walk to any pubs or restaurant and just drab. I pass it a lot and always wonder who styays there. Not worth the distance from town.
