Budget accomadations in August for a single traveller
 

I will be in Italy for 10 days in August, travelling by myself (male), and am looking for cheap accomodations--my only requests are clean and quiet. I've been to many different places in Italy,and am open to hostels, B&B's, rooms to rents, alternative accomodations, etc.

Most people who usse this board tend to be quite upscale. Try Lonely Planet and I think you'll get lots of answers.

While I agree Lonely Planet would be useful, there <i>is</i> a fair amount of budget travel info already here. I'd try doing a text search for each of the places you intend visiting (for example Rome AND budget hotels). Italy is a big country &amp; you haven't said where you're going. There's also a thread started by poster Ira titled something like Useful info on Italy. That should be helpful to you. Lastly, many people find staying in convents a good way to save money &amp; get a clean quiet place. The only downside as I understand it is curfews. If that interests you do a text search here for Italy AND convent stays.

See www.eurochepo.com - - if for no other reason than to establish &quot;the price to beat&quot;. I suspect that you can find cheaper than the placs listed there. It will hard to be deermine ahead of time whether th cheaper places you find are distinctly inferior in important ways (to you?)

And of course, the key to low cost accommodations is to &quot;cost-average-down&quot; less expensive <i>destinations</i> against the &quot;big three&quot; which are inherently higher cost. I wouldn't recommend staying more than 6 nights in more outlying areas - - for example, no fewer than (2 or) 3 nights in Rome; no fewer than (1 or) 2 nights IN Venice (hopefully do not give in to the temptation to find cheaper lodging in Mestre or Lido).
