Budapest to Bucharest (2 week trip)

Hello all! I'll be flying in to Budapest and then out of Bucharest. In total I have 15 days. I don't have access to a car so will have to rely on public transportation. Any suggestions for an itinerary? (Some have suggested some of the towns/cities I should visit: Pecs, Eger, Szentendre, Cluj Napoca, Sibiu, Brasov - apart from Budapest and Bucharest of course). However I'm not sure the best order to put these towns/cities in, and how accessible things are only travelling by public transport. Or even if I'm missing any worthwhile towns or cities! Any itinerary help would be much appreciated! (As well as advice on what to do in these locations, of course!)

West to East, since you're traveling eastward to Bucharest.

Check the www.seat61.com blog for information - he's probably rode every train between Budapest and Bucharest that exists.

hello,

realy worth visiting in Transylvania are medieval towns such as Sibiu, sighisoara and brasov, in this order.

those cities are like a triangle if you look on the map. that area between them is FULL of charming old saxon villages with fortified churches, castles and fortresses

you'll enter Romania from west - so, from the border you should go to Sibiu, after that sighisoara, after that brasov, and finaly to Bucharest !

being a Romanian, I can tell you that trains here are not a very good option - slow and with big delays, especialy in hot summers... bus will be better, but buses will go only to the major cities and don't enter the hidden villages...which are the most beautiful of Transylvania ...

regards !
