Budapest or Prague or Crakow

We're staying in Vienna for a few days and want to go from there to either Budapest, Crakow or Prague for a few days after. Any comments about these cities and which you would pick and why? We're not concerned about transportaiton there (we've got that convered), just atmosphere, things do, etc.

I would pick Prague, then Budapest and thirdly Crakow. All are well worth visiting and they are also very different. You could fit them all into a lovely week`s vacation if like me you are interested in beautiful historical cities.

I enjoyed each of those cities. With only a "few days," Krakow might make most sense. IMO, Budapest and Prague each deserves more time.

Hi, I was in Vienna for a week just two weeks ago for a week then took the train to Prague where I spent another week. I loved both cities - it was my first time in each. Vienna for it's wonderful art & museums and fantastic architecture. Prague was like being in a fairy tale; absolutely phenomenal buildings, bridges, the castle etc. but less an art lovers' city than Vienna.

Prague is most excellent for wandering, something fascinating to look at on every street. Lots of historical monument types of buildings. The Astronomical Clock, Castle, Powder Tower, and on and on. I was glad to be there in a less tourist ridden time period as I'm told it can get quite overwhelmed at times.

I didn't get to Budapest or Krakow, but I was never bored for a week in Prague and wished I could have stayed longer!

The original post is from 2005. Don't think she's still looking for an answer.
