I land into Amsterdam at 13.00 on 13th July and depart at 10.00 am on 17th July so i guess that makes its 3.5 days. In krakow i have 3 full days. Im landing into Split at 9.15 am and the ferry from Split to Hvar departs at 11 am as per the online high season schedule so I'm assuming i have sufficient time to get from the airport to the port.

Do u think i can at least do one day trip to maybe Haarlem considering its 20 mins in the train from Amsterdam. As i mentioned earlier we are not much into museums but would definately like a tour of the Heineken factory. Im also very keen on visiting the salt mines, Schindlers factory and the Auswitz. Is it trying to cramp in too much in 3 days. We love wandering around the old towns and sitting in outdoor terraces and watch the world pass by. So i want to keep 1 entire day for the old town.

The Heineken factory tour is a bit lackluster (to me) given it is no longer a working plant - but rather more a "beer museum".

For me, the Anne Frank House is a must. It is a very moving tribute, and a fascinating home.

I am a huge museum lover and Amsterdam is the best. But also a great town to just wander, stop for drinks, etc.

I would keep it open. It is something you can do spontaneously should the mood strike.

You have probably already done this trip, but we are two Aussies in our 60's so when we travel we tend to go for a long time. We did 105 days, then 9.5 weeks in Europe and have our last 9 weeks next year... Why are you considering travelling by air? The trains in Europe and wonderful. They start and finish on time and you see the countryside without the hassle of airport security checks and you get to see the country side. The trains come to the city so you are right there - no need for transport to and from the airport.

We have done almost all of our trips by rail and wouldn't dream of doing it any other way. For instance, wwhen we went from Berlin to Prague we stopped off in Dresden for a few hours... just check there are lockers for your luggage at the train station.

The easiest way to check out option is to use the German Rail System - Bahn - log on - costs nothing - and it shows you everything. Must easier to use once you join the system. When you select your journey have a look at what stations you stop at by choosing "Show Details" and you will see what stations you go through. Just simple choose a stopover and how much time you want there, or book two separate tickets. it s so easy. We have spent half a day in cities or even just a few hours - let's you walk around a city and get the feel for it.

I am currently considering stopping in Bratislava for a few hours on our journey from Vienna to Budapest though think hubby wants the faster train. You really can do it all.. just takes planning.

While I know it is a mute issue at this point, I want to say that we are currently in Ljubljana and it is a charming city that well deserves more than one day. We have been here 2 1/2 days and have easily filled our days walking around the beautiful streets. Additionally you can easily visit Lake Bled from here and the nearby gorge (sorry but can’t recall the name). Tomorrow we are taking a day trip to visit nearby caves and a castle. Slovenia is a beautiful country and well worth the time.

Ive been to Ljubliana and Crakow and personally think there is more to do in Crakow,but Slovenia was such a surprise. It was charming and the day trips, Lake Bled and the gorges & caves are wonderful. Crakow has more sights to see. Ljubliana is more just moving around enjoying the countryside, IMHO!
