Budapest Opera/Symphony-Concerts

We will be in Budapest next September.

I was wondering if anyone could provide a web page address where we might be able to check on concerts, etc. that might be of interest?

Thank you in advance.

Try here: http://www.jegymester.hu/index.jsp?lang=ENG

This is actually the Hungarian version of Ticket Master (jegy means ticket) and it lists lots of venues. I purchased tickets on line and it had no problems whatsoever with the system.

Thank you Therese!

So are the prices via Jegymester higher than if bought through the venue directly? I'm looking at operas at the Hungarian State Opera House specifically.

Hi; This doesn't specfically answer your question, but you might also try these web sites that have good general information about Hungary and Budapest. We hope to be there the first two weeks of October. www.hungarytourism.hu/ www.budapestinfo.hu/en Enjoy iris1745/dick

As I recall, yk, jegymester did not charge any sort of service fee, and apart from going to the box office yourself would be the most direct way of getting tickets. My memory may be faulty, though, so double check. The prices were quite low in any case.

Therese or anyone (lincasanova?)

Do you recall how the surtitles work at the Hungarian State Opera House? Are they projected on a screen above the stage in Hungarian? Or is it as fancy as the Vienna Staatsoper (or the Met) where each seat has its own individual LED screen which one can choose the language of the surtitles?

If it's Hungarian only, it may sway me from choosing one opera over another. Thanks.

I saw an opera there in Hungarian and am pretty sure there were some kind of English titles but couldn't remember if they were supertitles or seat-back ones, so I emailed the friend who went with me. He couldn't remember either but found this http://www.brendaandbrent.com/Hungary.html (scroll down about 2/3 of the way to just above the photo of the opera house) which says that non-Hungarian operas get only Hungarian supertitles.

So pick either a Hungarian opera or one that you've seen before.

Thank you, MlleFifi. They are actually performing La Traviata and Turandot while I'm there, so I think I'll go to both as I love both; but for my travel companions I suspect La Traviata will be the better choice.
