Hello Travelers,<BR>I'll be in Budapest this Jan.I will be traveling alone and will need accomadations with most of the ammenities.Any suggestions?Any info about what I should expect when I hope off the train will be a great help. Thanks. Paul

With due respect ... you should read the messages within the several "threads" (group of related messages) found on this site under Hungary. Then, if you have more specific questions, and offer specifics about your own priorities and constraints, you may find some helpful responses. But "will need accomodations" and "what should I expect" offers others no point for response.

why criticize the author... if you don't like a question just move on... seems like you forgot your holiday spirit.

One thing that you can expect when you hop off the train/plane is to be accosted by taxi drivers wanting to take you to your hotel and charge you more than necessary. Best is to call a taxi or take a taxi ONLY with a telephone number on the front door. <BR><BR>We stayed at the Intercontinental which was good.

I lived in Budapest over a five-month period several years ago. The K+K Hotel Opera was very good.

Dottie, Budapest to Pecs is really more than a day trip considering the drive time. We stayed at the hotel Palatinus in Pecs. It was quite nice and right on the pedestrian mall 1/2 block from the main square. It is a charming town. <BR>(I am assuming that you mean Pecs.)<BR><BR>

There is a Paks, Hungary and it is where a nuclear reactor is -- from the info I can find it is 100 km from Budapest. No idea what the transportation/roads are to Paks.

s.Fowler<BR>Yes, that is the town, Paks Hungary. I know nothing about it except my father-in-law was born there and we would like to visit the church he was baptised in and check out how many relatives that we do not know still live there.

The only mention of Paks in Lonely Planet's "Hungary" is that on a clear day from Calvary Hill in Szekszard you can see the nuclear power station 30 km to the north. Paks is located in the Southern Transdanubia region of Hungary.

Hello Dotie!<BR><BR>Paks is a small town of 20000 inhabitants on the western shore of the Danube.the riverbank is a 60 m high loess wall, which is intersting for geologists.In the town there are some nice 19 .c buildings,churches for the 3 main religions, one of then is a modern one according to the plans of the nost famous contemporary architect.The fish soup-hal&aacute;szl&eacute;-is very famous.<BR>
