Budapest in February
My husband and I, along with our 17 year old daughter, are looking at visiting Budapest and Prague in February 08. Are there places closed at that time of year? We realize it will be cold, but we don't mind bundling up.
Any comments or suggestions? Thanks, Debbie |
I don't know what "places" you're interested in seeing -- check websites of museums or theaters or whatever you're specifically interested in. But yes, generally life continues on even in February! Maybe there will be a little snow on the castles, oh that would be beautiful. There's a lot of info on this forum, so do a search for both cities and you'll have lots of ideas to start. Your great advantages in Feb. are FAR fewer tourists and airplane tix and hotels are cheaper. Yay!

I visited Prague January 2005, Budapest February 2006, a bit chilly, but every thing opened; concert halls, opera house were in full programme; fewer tourists, no reservation needed even in the best restaurant.
In Budapest, it was quite an experience to try the outdoor thermal bath while snow flakes falling down. |
Thank you for the replies. Our school district has a Winter Break in February so we have to travel when possible. I read in a travel book that some places might close, but we have not ever found that to be an issue for the past few locations.

I think going to Budapest in February would be a blessing because while it will be cold you will also avoid all the tourist crowds. It will be a more authentic and worthwhile experience if you don't mind wrapping up! Most museums and attractions will be open.
