Budapest Hotels
 

My husband and I are thinking of spending 4 nites in Budapest in early June. Location is important to us--we would like to be walking distance to the important city sites and were hoping not to spend more than $150/night. Is this possible? Thanks for any suggestions that any of you might have.

My recommendation is [always:)] Hotel Victoria -- if they have room at this late date. They are on the "Buda" side, but very near the Chain Bridge, so only a 10-15 minute walk to the center of Budapest. And at the bridge is the funicular to castle hill -- for me it's the best of both worlds. Their website is: http://www.victoria.hu/ Rooms are about $100. USD

The little 12 room Inn, Hotel Astra Vendeghaz. Built around a courtyard. Large, beautifully decorated rooms in an old world style. Very friendly and helpful staff (they made our reservations for everything). Directly below the Castle (funicular up, walk down through a delightful neighborhood) Five minutes from the Chain Bridge in Watertown (Buda side). $120 per night in 1999. We loved it.

I am staying in the InterContinental Budapest for US$130/nite in mid-May. Not bad, but not sure if it is your kinda hotel. I am not a very adventourous person...want to have the home "comfort". Anyone know if this hotel is far?

I would also recommend the Intercontinental Hotel. It is ideally located right on the Danube near the Chain Bridge. Especially pretty area at night. I was there last summer and went for the extra bucks of a river view room. The view, especially at night, is exquisite. I thought it was well worth the money since it is probably the only time I will be there.

We also enjoyed the Intercontinental for its ideal location at the Pest end of <BR>chain bridge. It sits next to the river promenade and only one block from the main square (Vaci Utca) and the metro. A tram line also runs along the river side of the hotel, which gives easy access to the Gellert baths and the city's lively indoor market. <BR> <BR>Intercontinental offers specials at its European properties during the summer months, which for us, made this hotel's rates very affordable. <BR> <BR>Their indoor pool was a nice "creature comfort".
