It was the Fisherman's Bastion that I called the castle thing. It's in Buda.

BTW, if you want something quick but delicious for lunch, I love this place:
http://www.duran.hu/ I go to the one at the bottom of Andrassy ut. |
Marriott has many properties in B.... I have stayed at the reg. marriott and its location was excellent---every room has a river view I believe... it is an older 'modern' bldg. but I expect it has had remodeling.
i'd love to stay at the autograpg collection Marriott there---look at www.marriott.com |
we stayed recently at le meridien in Pest and found it very central. Budapest is very spread out . We loved the synagogue (did the Tour), Fishermans bastion, New York Cafe -just to see the building and gaze at it whilst eating , walking the bolulevards.

Don't forget the For Sale Pub, across the street from the Market. (Free peanuts!)

Another vote the Gerloczy. I agree with everything that Peter_k said.
The other thing I loved about it is that it reminded me of being in Europe in the 1970s. Very old-world, classy, yet not at all pricey relative to Rome, London, Paris, etc. Management could not be more gracious; location could not be more convenient (yet not noisy or "busy"); food could not be more delicious. We were there in early April a couple of years ago, and it was still quite cold; yet we enjoyed eating outside, seated under the very effective overhead heaters and bundled up with the complimentary woolen blankets the waiters provide. I definitely hope to return someday... |
