BUDAPEST HOTEL RECOMMENDATIONS
 

We'll be in Budapest (for the first time) for five days before New Year's and two days in mid January. Which hotels are the best? Do any of them have deals over any part of this time period? <BR> <BR>Thanks.

Basically you first need to decide if you want to stay in Buda (perhaps castle hill) or Pest. Figure out what you plan to do and the type of environment you like. In Buda we stayed at the Kulturinov in a wing of an old government building it is across the street from the Hilton which sits on the bank of the Danube. In Pest there is greater variety of hotels. Do take an evening Danube Cruise. Budapest is most beautiful at night with all the lights from the river.

My standard recommendation is Hotel Victoria. I've posted about it on this forum before. It's in Buda, but beautifully located for both Buda and Pest and every room has a fabulous view of the river. Their website is at: http://1-800-travel.com/hotel-victoria/

We stayed at the Marriott in August and it was fine. All the other main hotels(Hilton, Hyatt etc) looked okay. Depends how much cash you've got and whether you to avoid global brands. By the way, I reckon the best location will be the Four Seasons at the end of the Chain Bridge which will probably be splendid when they get round to finishing the refurbishment. We went to the Gellert out of curiosity and thought it looked pretty grim, and it is bit further away than most of the other hotels. But some people say they quite like it. Budapest is a really pleasant place, but I'm not sure if it justifies a total of 7 days' stay unless you have no choice.

Judy, Budapest is beautiful but 7 days is too much...you'll get bored after the 4th day. Try to go to Prague - it's not that far and you'll also love the city. In Budapest stay at the Novotel in Buda - cheap and nice. <BR>Nino

I strongly disagree with the last 2 posts. You could easily spend 2 weeks in Budapest and not run out of things to do. If you do have extra time take a trolly/bus trip out to the Open air Soviat museum where they took all of the monuments and statues down throughout Hungary and placed them there. <BR>

Judy, <BR> <BR>I was in Budapest last year and stayed at the Hotel Gellert and enjoyed it. Be sure to go to the baths and get a massage while you are there. Regardless of the language differences, they know what it aching on you and how to fix it. Enjoy. It is a beautiful city.-Lisa
